Many parents are deciding to home-school their preschoolers and school-aged children. Too often, parents lack the confidence to include science in their activities.

The ScienceStart! curriculum can make it easy for parents to help children develop science content skills while they learn science content.

Science ZipKits

Science Zipkits are take-home ziplock bags that contain the instructions and materials for carrying out a science experience. They offer an opportunity for the parent and child to explore together, for the child to demonstrate what she is learning in school, and for the parent to support this learning. Often the activity is shared with siblings and other family members or friends.

The Science ZipKit Guide contains instructions for creating a large number of different ZipKits, covering a wide variety of topics.

More Science ZipKits

More Science ZipKits is a second set of Science ZipKits for use in home schooling. These are adapted from the activities that appear in the Science Celebration Guide. If home-schooling parents are joining with other parents for science instruction, these groups are likely to prefer the Science Celebration Guide.

Once-A-Week Science

Originally created for family daycare providers, the Once-A-Week Science Curriculum offers four brief modules, with ten sequentially organized science activities per module. These may be used alone or may be integrated with suggested children's literature and related activities.

Integrated, Coherent ScienceStart! Curriculum

The integrated, coherent ScienceStart! curriculum is designed for everyday use in a preschool classroom. It is easily adapted for use by the home-schooling parent. Five modules are each designed to last 6 to 10 weeks. Each day's activities in the areas of play, performing arts, mathematics, social studies, language, and literacy are designed around a science activity. The science activity serves as the 'hub' for these other activities.

The ScienceStart! Integrated Planning Wheel® provides the framework for each week's work.

In addition, the curriculum provides a written plan for each lesson.
