Children are biologically prepared to learn about their everyday world, the same way they are biologically prepared to learn to talk, to walk, and to engage in social relationships with their parents and others. Young children learn from direct experience rather than from being told things. ScienceStart! meets children's preferred learning style by being based in direct, hands-on participation in activities. Research also shows that children are able to remember more about events they experience if the parent or teacher with them talks about this experience. This way, children can review the experience of the event itself and can transform their mental representations of the experience into linguistic representations. |
